Monetising valuable assets that are no longer of direct strategic value to a company is a sensible consideration for any business, but particularly those with an investment in technology innovation. 

Carving out a product or service requires two distinct areas of expertise that often lie outside the experience of the divesting company:

Firstly, a suitable buyer profile has to be determined, target purchasers profiled and the relative worth of your sub-business to each prospective acquirer ascertained. 

Secondly, but often the more challenging element, is to identify and unpick all the operational dependencies that knit that division to the overall company, the impact on the parent company's remaining business and the resources required to manage a smooth transition. Assisting the new owner with a structured guide for their post acquisition integration will also greatly enhance the attractiveness and value of the divested asset.
